Tamil actor Silambarasan T Rajendar a.k.a STR has decided to remake the critically acclaimed Irrfan Khan starrer, “Paan Singh Tomar”, for the Tamil audience. Besides starring in it, sources say that STR will also be directing the film, in addition to penning down lyrics for a couple of songs and crooning them himself. STR’s close friend and long-time associate Yuvan Shankar Raja is reported to have been approached to handle the music department.

The film, which has tentatively been titled “Paan Saapidum Kumar”, will showcase Simbhu as Kumar, a paan-loving national-level athlete, serving in the army, who is forced to become a dacoit due to negligence from all quarters. The star, who has starred in ample remakes of late, like Vaanam and Osthi, has decided to continue his remake run with this one.

Inside sources say that STR and Yuvan are currently spending time in an undisclosed location, working on the music. STR’s intro song is said to be a punch-packed folk treat for all his first-bench fans, with lyrics like – “Paan saapidum Kumaru, Manmadhan ivan Kumaru, Vallavanum thaan Kumaru, Vettai Mannan da Kumaru”. Sources from the unit add that the highlight of the music would be an anthem for Rahul Dravid, with the cricketer in the backdrop and supposedly extraordinary dance moves by STR, seeming to be his reply to arch-rival Dhanush’s Sachin anthem. STR is reported to be in clandestine talks with the cricketer himself, requesting him to deliver a speech at the movie’s audio launch, after the latter’s impressive Bradman oration down under.

The third song to be written and sung by STR, according to technicians in the music department, which has lyrics like “Odina odina runneru di, un kooda thaan odina winneru di, naan thaan un heartukku owneru di, nee illama na periya loneru di”, is touted to be a heavy-rhythm folk number, typical of any STR film. The PSK team, is on the hunt for a suitable heroine, with STR strongly pitching in for Katrina Kaif to play the lead role, with Bollywood bombshell Malaika Arora Khan being considered for an item number.

Members of the production team say that STR is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the movie cements its place in the hearts of people as a memorable blockbuster. An already proud T. Rajendar has announced that Simbhu would surely win the national award for this movie and God willing, an Academy Award too.
