Inspired by Sachin Tendulkar, Murali Vijay blocks RTI on his dismal IPL performance

Who better than arguably India’s best opening batsman ever to show the way to aspiring openers? Well, not only in cricket, but off the field too, it seems. Inspired by Indian cricketing-legend-turned-member-of-parliament Sachin Tendulkar’s blocking of an RTI on his controversial bungalow in Bandra, dropped Indian opener Murali Vijay, who also opens the batting for the Chennai Super Kings IPL franchise, has taken a cue and blocked an RTI on his questionable performances this IPL season.

Vijay, who has been struggling to get past double figures, thereby portraying dismal batting statistics overall, seems to be a major failure for CSK. An RTI application was filed in this regard by R.K.Sivamani, an RTI activist and ardent supporter of the Chennai Super Kings, seeking information on the reason behind Vijay’s performances. However, it was soon blocked by the batsman. Stephen Fleming, coach of CSK, addressed the media, saying – “Vijay has objected to information pertaining to his performances being revealed under the RTI to a third party.”

Vijay has come under the scanner after continued failures even in the recently concluded Champions League T20. His form has sparked many reactions from all quarters, with Tamil actor T.Rajendar slamming the cricketer, saying

Yey Murali,
Why you always get out early?
Whether in Virugambakkam or in Worli?
Because you want to spend time with your girly?
Is she Liz Hurley?
Btw, Did you notice Sachin’s hair is no longer curly?

In another incident which is likely to bring back the horrors of 2008 for Harbhajan Singh, an attempt by the Mumbai Indians skipper to defend Vijay, who is nicknamed “Monk”, seems to have terribly backfired, as the former said – “I think we need to give him some more time before jumping the gun. Monky is a class player, we’ve all seen that earlier. It’s just a matter of time before he shines again”. News channels in Australia have gone abuzz, reporting “After Symonds, it’s now Vijay’s turn.”

CNN-IBN’s deputy editor Sagarika Ghose tweeted “Hmmm..So Monk is under fire..so what is it going to be after monasteries? Temples? Mosques? Churches? Watch FTN, tonight at 10 pm,” while founder Rajdeep Sardesai ended the day, by tweeting – “So Monk is failing repeatedly. I know of a Monk which is guaranteed never to fail and I’m having more of it tonight. Gnight.”
